Jerusalem’s 2009 gay pride parade went on with little problems.   On Thursday, June 25, Two-thousand people marched and one antigay protester was arrested for hurling an egg at the marchers, according the Israel news Web site, Haaretz.com.

Organizers were undoubtedly relieved.   After the city’s pride parade in 2005, an Orthodox Jewish man was arrested after he stabbed three participants.

Aside from the egg-tossing incident, the parade was marked by no violent incidents.  Some 1600 police were on hand to deal with any problems, according to Haaretz.com.

Organizers helped head off trouble by encouraging people to dress modestly and be respectful of others.  They also explained that the parade was more of a political, rather than the party-type of parade held in Tel Aviv earlier this month.  For my previous post on the organizers who spoke out at an iPride event earlier this month, click here.
