The second annual New Ipswich Autumn Festival was held on Sunday Oct 25th, the designated rain date. The Festival was held at Memorial Field in New Ipswich and featured a number of family oriented activities and entertainment.
A "Cow Pie Bingo" fund raising activity was held to raise money for the 8th grade class trip. A grid of squares is drawn on the ground and a cow "decides" where to place a "chip". The ticket holder of the square wins a money. The cow cooperated and the ticket holder and 8th grade class were both winners.
A number of the games centered on soccer skills which is quite popular in town. There was a Bounce House for the young children and a Scarecrow making activity substituting shredded paper for the the traditional straw.
This Festival featured a large number of animals besides the cow used for the bingo contest. The Second Chance Sato Rescue of Temple had a number of stray dogs that they place with foster families. These abandoned dogs are rescued from the streets of Puerto Rico. The term "Sato" (pronounced "saw-toe") is Puerto Rican slang for street dog.
"Gypsy" of Stoney Brook Rabbitry displayed a number of rare rabbit breeds, a group of red eared slider turtles , and both a rare Buff and Slate turkey.
In the craft area Sleeping Monk farm located in New Ipswich had a number of winter socks and items made from the wool of their Alpaca and Angora goats.
Live music was performed throughout the day by "Rick and the Redhead" and "Those Three Guys". A semicircle of hay bales provided comfortable seating for the concert.
At dusk there was a carved pumpkin judging contest and a bonfire. The recreation department and volunteers did a fine job with planning and coordinating this annual event.
