We are experiencing a classic Nor'easter today. I'm looking with dismay as the heavy snow is weighing down my newly planted peach tree that replaced the apple tree that was destroyed in the December 2008 ice storm. Many of the trees that were not felled in that storm have broken branches and this heavy wet snow is only going to make things worse.
A few years back I replaced my asphalt shingles with metal after a previous bad encounter with ice dam flooding in the house. Ice Dams and Frost Heaves are two of the many challenges that residents of this state. Metal roofing works wonderfully but every so often the entire house shakes as the snow avalanches off the surface in large sheets. I didn't expect to be hearing that cheerful sound until well into December.
I did take advantage of this stormy Sunday to finally get the wood stove fired up for the start of the season. At least I had the foresight to have some wood handy in the basement. Let's hope that this is just an anomaly.
