My husband has not always liked the ethnic foods that I've brought to the table since our marriage, but Sriracha is one that he definitely appreciates.

Sriracha is a flavorful hot sauce that originates in Thailand.  One of the most popular and widely available brands, put out by Huy Fong Foods, has a red rooster on the front of the bottle, leading to it frequently being called "red rooster," "rooster sauce," or "cock sauce."

Sriracha is composed of chilies, garlic, vinegar, sugar, and salt.  It is frequently used as a dip for meats, but in my family we have used it as a basting (like BBQ sauce) for meats, topping for pizza, and more or less any other sauce application one could think of.  The sauce has a pleasant amount of heat; at least enough so that my husband, who likes to push the boundaries of hot foods, finds it a nice change from the typical hot sauces available.

If condiment and hot sauce fans are tired of the same old offerings, try picking up a bottle of Sriracha at the local grocery store.  It's a sure-fire way to add a little asian zip and zing to what may have been a ho-hum affair.  For more information on Sriracha try  http://www.gourmet.com/food/2008/02/sriracha.
