Billy Joel still married to his custom-built motorcycles on display in Sag Harbor
While Billy Joel's third marriage is being dissolved, his love for his music, his custom-made boats, and his retro motorcycle collection remains intact. In the old whaling village of Sag Harbor on Long Island's East End, where Joel owns a home, the Grammy-winning musician has put his collection of custom-made motorcycles on exhibit. Through July 19, 2009, Lighthouse Harley Davidson of Huntington Station, New York, and Billy Joel are exhibiting 22 of his highly-customized cycles at Christy's Art Center in Sag Harbor. Show hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Thursday; 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Friday through Sunday. Call 631-725-7000 or visit

The exhibit is a homage to Harley-Davidson's 100 year anniversary. Joel, working with Lighthouse Harley Davidson owner Rob Schneider and General Manager Bill Blackford back in 2005, collaborated with them on a retro look for a new Sportster model he had just purchased. Soon after the completion and success of his Sportster, Joel decided to try his hand again with a 2005 Harley Davidson Springer Classic. The result was a unique 1940’s Knucklehead look. The response to these two creations was so overwhelming that Joel and Schneider decided to put these two unique models and 2 other motorcycles into production as pre-packaged, fully accessorized Harley-Davidson bikes.
Lighthouse Harley-Davidson will be offering these models for sale. Each one will come with a Letter of Authenticity signed by Billy Joel, certifying that they are unique re-creations that include many of the accessories and hand fabricated parts that went into Joel’s own bikes.
Joel and Schneider are continuing to create other new models to expand their line-up of retro versions.
