The 83rd annual Natchitoches (Nak-a-tish) Christmas Festival of LIghts kicks off at 6 pm on November 21st, 2009 and runs through January 6th, 2010. Nestled just off Interstate 49 in Natchitoches Parish, the charm of this historic town is a memorable experience. During the annual event, Christmas lights will be turned on every night at dusk. Each year, over 100,000 visitors swarm to Natchitoches for the parades, music, food, arts and crafts shows and fireworks over the Cane River every Saturday and at midnight on New Year's Eve.
On December 5th, 2009, at 1 pm, the 6th annual motorcycle parade to lead the 83rd annual Natchitoches Christmas festival parade will roll through the streets. All bikes are welcomed and it's considered neutral territory. The event is sponsored by the Independent Motorcycle Riders of Natchitoches, City of Natchitoches and the Chamber of Commerce, and they invite you to come enjoy the food, fun, parade, shopping and fireworks.
It will be a sort of "toy run" as organizers are encouraging riders to bring a toy or give cash donations to be used to make Christmas special for needy families and children in the surrounding areas. They encourage riders to bring their flags and decorate their bikes. Staging for the parade will begin at noon at Jefferson Street and Hwy 6 East, at Northwestern State University Campus South gate. There will be a free lunch for the first 200 riders and passengers.
