Blue backdrops give luminous lucite, fresh white, and vibrant orange the opp to pop
In some of the trendiest and most fashion-forward rooms this winter, various shades of blue are being used as a backdrop for other neutrals combined with a pop of color. In more contemporary interiors such as airy, urban loft settings, the use of blue paint tones can be an advantageous way of merging the indoors with the outdoors. Benjamin Moore offers a classic range of blue paint tones that can achieve a more modern take on traditional blues, but also provide timeless, classic elements- -trends or no trends, these are just all-around fantastic colors. From top to bottom in background of the picture I have provided here, you have Buxton Blue, Jamestown Blue, Van Courtland Blue, Templeton Gray, Buckland Blue, and Van Deusen Blue. Benjamin Moore offers the convenient and cost-effective option of selling samples of these Historical Colors in small quantities. This is a great way to test out options before having to commit.

To complete a look that is similar to the fantastic Manhattan apartment designed by Siris/Coombs Architects and Interior Designer Jason Bell, add minimal layers of neutrals in the form of drapery and upholstery to the paint foundation in blue.
Additionally, clients on a budget may find interesting ways of completing the blue + neutral + pop of color palette (= fabulous) in a contemporary loft setting by working in some of the fantastic items I have selected below:
1) Global Views's Radio City Lamp (pictured at top left, superimposed over the range of Ben Moore blue paint tones) offers the luminosity needed with its great, chunky lucite base (email me for pricing).
2) Z Gallerie's Leslie Side Chair ($249 at
www.zgallerie.com) offers a nice seating alternative.
3) Z Gallerie's Encore Side Table (originally $299 now $199
www.zgallerie.com) is a very strong piece with lots of potential to reflect light, thus endowing the space with glamour as well as an airy appeal.
4) ZGallerie's Lithe Vases ($12.95-$16.95
www.zgallerie.com) provide excellent opportunies to pop the color. Clustered tight in groups of twos or threes, they will impart greater impact.
5) Pottery Barn's Velvet Pillow Covers ($12.99-29.99
www.potterybarn.com; pictured superimposed over blue tones at top) can be coordinated with the lithe vases in order to thread the more impactful color throughout the rest of the room.
