I thought I'd start a new monthly segment focused on the current green job economy. Some things are changing and some are staying the same. Fortunately 2010 is right around the bend. New year, new hope, new growth. (This is the point where you stop laughing).
Seriously, there has been some movement in a few technical niche areas in carbon and climate change. We've noticed U.S. based carbon forestry organizations begin to put plans together for growth next year. Like always the first wave of hiring will be technical in nature - engineers, program managers, etc... I will not proclaim any subsector of renewable energy to be "hot" until I start to see operations, business development and administrative positions coming online. Again, that's not happening but there is the glimmer of hope that 2010 will bring this wave of hiring.
Wind energy in general is still running in place. I don't see many projects lit green until next year. Cleantech and smart grid are growing at a snails pace, economy driven.
