Grocery shopping is an obvious must do in order to survive. However, going grocery shopping with a disability isn't always easy. Wegmans just opened a new store in Collegeville, Pennsylvania. The accessibility factor has mixed reviews.
Access into the store is fine and there is more than enough handicapped parking spaces. The store is huge with a wide selection of food and also food you can order to eat in or out of the store. Free child care is also included. You just drop your child off (age 3 and up) and pick them up. They are entertained by crafts, toys, and TV. You will get a pager in case your child needs you. You must remain in the store at all times.
The counters where you need to order food are very high. From a wheelchair, you can hardly see the counter top let alone the employees to order. Everyone is helpful and nice though. The bathrooms are accessible and they have wheelchairs you can borrow at the store.
