Since the November 3rd election process didn't end up with any of Lakeland's three mayoral candidates, Eliot Dorsch, Gow Fields or Jim Verplanck, managing to get more than 50% of the votes, a runoff election between the two with the most votes, Fields and Verplanck, is now slated for December 8, 2009.
Contender Gow Fields wound up with 4,199 votes for a 39.5% share of the vote, Jim Verplanck received 4,443 votes to earn a 41.7% share and Elliot Dorsch pulled in 2002 votes and a 19% share.
The job of being Lakeland's Mayor pays an annual salary of $23,518, about the same amount that each of the candidates spent on their campaigns.
