Since the November 3rd election process didn't end up with any of Lakeland's three mayoral candidates, Eliot Dorsch, Gow Fields or Jim Verplanck, managing to get more than 50% of the votes, a runoff election between the two with the most votes, Fields and Verplanck, is now slated for December 8, 2009.

Contender Gow Fields wound up with 4,199 votes for a 39.5% share of the vote, Jim Verplanck received 4,443 votes to earn a 41.7% share and Elliot Dorsch pulled in 2002 votes and a 19% share.

The job of being Lakeland's Mayor pays an annual salary of $23,518, about the same amount that each of the candidates spent on their campaigns.

Winners of the City Commission jobs and those vote tallies were as follows:

City Commission - Northwest

Clarence Grier          2,946 votes - 30%
Ricky Shirah              2,362 votes - 24%
Phillip Walker            4,457 votes - 46%

City Commission - Southwest

Michael Dunn            4,709 votes - 49%
Donald R. Selvage   4,965 votes - 51%

City Commission - At-Large

Rusty Boedicker       2,469 votes - 25%
R. Howard Wiggs     7,476 votes - 75%
