The economic crunch has triggered thousands of lay-offs across the nation.   Data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics show that the national unemployment rate in the United States of America is 9.7%.   Although the State of Maryland has a 7.2% unemployment rate, the City of Baltimore has a 11.1% unemployment rate.  For too many Baltimore residents, unemployment is a harsh reality.  Fortunately, the B'More Job Development Coalition is working diligently to help Baltimore residents find jobs.

On Thursday, October 29th from 10 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. in the Paul C. Wolman Assembly Hall at the War Memorial Building located 100 N. Gay Street (21202), the B'More Job Development Coalition is hosting a Job Fair with approximately 30 employers and 400 referrals.  A representative from Senator Barbara Mikulski’s office is also expected to attend the job fair.   Anyone interested in participating in this scheduled job fair must obtain a referral from one of The B'More Job Development Coalition members.

The B'More Job Development Coalition members include the Center for Urban Families, Civic Works, Baltimore City Child Support, Baltimore City Department of Transportation, Baltimore Pre Release Unit, Baltimore Rising, Catholic Charities, Department of Juvenile Services, Gaudenzia, Inc., Goodwill Industries, Helping Up Mission, Hezekiah Movement, IT Works, Jericho Project, Job Opportunities Task Force, Marian House, Maryland New Directions, MOED, North American Trade Schools, VSP and Women Accepting Responsibility. The B'More Job Development Coalition coalition consists of volunteer direct service staff who work collectively to help underserved and underemployed individuals in Baltimore with all aspects of job development.

"I attended an Offender Workforce Development Training and realized that nothing like this collaboration was being done in Baltimore or Maryland that was comprised of direct line personnel...the persons actually in the field attempting to develop employment opportunities for Baltimore residents," said Nona Williams, the Chair of the B'More Job Development Coalition and an Account Manager at STRIVE/Center for Urban Families.

Ms. Williams is seeking private and public fund donations to further develop and expand the work of the B'More Job Development Coalition.  The coalition meets usually on the 2nd or 3rd Wednesday of the month and is always seeking new organizational partners.
