Calorie restriction (CR for short) has become popular these days. The idea is, if you eat ~30% less calories than you currently eat you'll live longer and become healthier. You can learn more by going to their website.
But there really isn’t anything new about the idea of eating less food to lose fat and becoming healthier. I mean, it sort of a ‘duh.’
The problem with CR is if you don’t eat enough fat and protein you will lose lean tissue, meaning, muscle and bone. This is inarguable. So if you CR to the point where you lose lean tissue, it becomes unhealthful. And many people who use this system do.
Eating too little dietary fat is especially bad. It's a metabolic disaster. In fact, you must eat fat and a good deal of it with your protein and veggies or you do not derive the nutrients from these foods nearly as well. Eating protein without fat is especially bad.
It’s not a matter of eating less food per se, it's a matter of eating correctly making sure to take in enough nutrients to maintain lean tissue and at the same time, stay or become healthy.
