A new Canadian indie music festival had its genesis this past weekend as Bridgestock '09 took place on Saturday August 15th in beautiful Welland, Ontario (Near Niagara Falls/St.Catherines). The weather was scorching hot, traffic horrible out of the city, but people were in good spirits all around.

In preparation, it was necessary to pre-listen to all of the bands, as there were 3 stages for the performers to play with 28 singers/bands slated on the bill, it wasn't possible to see all the performances. So, by listening to each band's music on their mypace or band website, it was possible to choose preferred bands to see live at each designated time slot.

Unfortunately, due to the realities of travel, the highways were jammed as what was a one and a half hour trip, took 3 hours. Therefore, many bands high up on my list, were in fact missed. On the plus side, through e-mail, a press pass was attained and access to the bands to do interviews was secured.

Left to right: Casey Clowater (Bass); Paul Davidson (Guitars); Matt Moffit (Lead Vocals); Neil Uppal (Drums); Jesse O'Hara (Guitars)

Although it wasn't possible to see all the bands due to either to travel, or the band interviews, there are still some shout outs and music recommendations I can make. From my previews of their music, these bands stood out: Dinosaur Bones, Sun Satellite, The Midway State, Walk Off the Earth, Black Majik, Citizen, Stereos, Beth Moore, and Emergency Exit.

In future articles I will go into more details with the interviews with the 3 bands I spoke to: Dinosaur Bones, Sun Satellite, and Emergency Exit. Each band was quite different, funny guys, who love music, and are all quite good! As well, I'll give further reviews on the bands music specifically.

Here's some footage that I filmed of Canadian Indie Band: Dinosaur Bones
