AISD football teams have put up more impressive performances this season than initially expected. Travis High is in the district championship discussion heading into the last two weeks of the season. Anderson isn't out of the playoff picture and Austin High is pushing hard to keep teams like Pflugerville and Bowie behind them in district standings.
Going into Week 9 tonight on the eve of Halloween, the Austin Area plays host to many intriguing games. LBJ plays Reagan in the classic game at Nelson Field, which has been anything but classic the last five years. But wouldn't it be something if Reagan upset the Jaguars, who probably can't help but to listen to the score updates on McCallum vs Travis tonight. Travis on the other hand, will be trying to stay in the championship hunt against the Knights in their annual "Battle for the Bell" at House Park. If the Rebels can defeat McCallum, then it will put them into a three way tie with McCallum and LBJ.
In 25-5A, the playoff race is tighter than ever as three 1-4 teams cling to slim playoff hopes, and Austin, Pflugerville and Bowie duke it out in the middle of the pack. Bastrop has clinched its spot in the playoffs but can the Bears run the table? Only Akins and Bowie stand in their way.
Some Key Games this Week
McCallum (5-2) Travis (6-3)
Westlake (6-2) Austin High (5-3)
Pflugerville (5-3) Bowie (5-3)
