Today, October 9th, at the Henrietta Acampora Center in Blue Point, Suffolk County will be having it's Influenza and Pneumonia Vaccination Clinic from 1:30pm to 3:00pm.
Adults over the age of 18 with a Medicare card and no HMO can get the shot for free. Remember to bring your card with you. For all others the flu shot is $39.00 and pneumonia shot is $55.00. The pneumonia vaccination is good for two years. Checks should be made out to SCDHS - they do not accept cash.
If you cannot make it to Blue Point today, there are more clinics scheduled all over Suffolk County till the end of November. Here is the schedule. It is mostly seniors that go to this clinic and they start lining up promptly at 1:30pm at the back of the recreation center.
They will not have immunization for the H1N1 for Swine Flu. Studies have shown that a third of all adults age 60 and over have some immunity against the Swine Flu. This group does not need to get this shot unless they have other health concerns. But all seniors should get the seasonal flu shot that is being offered today in Blue Point. Research from the British Medical Journal said if you cannot get the Swine Flu shot, to still get the regular flu shot because it may provide some protection against the Swine Flu.
