"Our future is with our youth."  There's always some sort of cliché like that floating around. But in the realm of open-mindedness, it is most certainly true. Just ask a handful of 8 year olds about gay marriage: a total non-issue to them. Or some 5 year olds about what color clothes they "should" wear: whatever they like best, of course. Duh!

As kids get older, though, the world around them starts to work on their brains, closing off some of those earlier, more open-minded notions. But I'm certain that this trend is changing. A terrific case in point: An 18 year old boy was just elected prom queen at an LA high school (http://www.latimes.com/news/local/la-me-prom-queen28-2009may28,0,2700821.story). Elected by his peers -- the youth in whose hands we place our future. And it's a bright future when these youth can see past stereotypes and narrow conceptions of sex and gender. Bravo to Sergio and to his entire senior class!
