A second case of CPV has been reported at Masterson Station dog park.
Again, this is an extremely contagious virus that infects dogs around two years old or less. Older dogs tend to have a stronger imune system and can resist the virus.
It is recommended that puppies under two avoid the park for a couple of months so the virus will die out. Unfortunately the virus can live for up to two months in temperatures of forty degrees Fahrenheit . If you insist on bringing your pups to the park, for your pets own safety, follow these suggested guidelines.
Bring your own water dish and water.
Do not let your puppy drink from another dog's bowl.
Do not let another dog drink from your dog's bowl. The dog may be carrying the virus.
Do not let your dog chew on another dog's toy, and the opposite.
Just because an older dog may not have the virus, they could still be a carrier.
These are just some simple things you can do to help avoid contracting this contagious virus.
Be aware and alert. Puppies need exercise and socialization, but they also need to be kept free from painful mouth blisters.
