In further shocking and sad news from the entertainment world today, actress and 70's sex symbol Farrah Fawcett finally lost her long-term battle with cancer. She died at 9:28 AM today at St. John's hospital in Santa Monica in the ICU. Longtime sweetheart Ryan O'Neal and friend Alana Stewart were at her bedside. She was only 62.
The "Charlie's Angels" star was diagnosed with anal cancer back in 2006, and had been courageously battling the illness since then.
Last month "Farrah's Story" aired--a documentary where she made her painful treatments and difficult setbacks public — from shaving her trademark golden locks before chemotherapy could claim them, to undergoing experimental treatments in Germany. NBC estimated the May 15, 2009, broadcast drew nearly 9 million viewers.
Sadly, even though Ryan O'Neal was said to have still wanted to marry Farrah, they did not marry during her final days. O'Neal states: "After a long and brave battle with cancer, our beloved Farrah has passed away. Although this is an extremely difficult time for her family and friends, we take comfort in the beautiful times that we shared with Farrah over the years and the knowledge that her life brought joy to so many people around the world."
Farrah, our heart goes out to your family...and you will certainly live on in our memories.
