On Tuesday, October 27, Washington D.C. held the 23rd annual High Heel Race on 17th Street NW near Dupont Circle.  The mood was festive as amateur and professional drag queens strutted their stuff.  Over 10,000 spectators lined the wet and cold streets before the 9:00 p.m. race.  The race is only 0.2 miles long between P & R Streets but some of the leading ladies blazed by in feather boas and stillettos like Usain Bolt.  The only official prize to the fastest 'Lady' in high heels is a $100 bar tab from sponsor JR's Bar and Grill.  But, the unofficial costume show and parade is the real draw.

Tickets for seats at the finish line are sold to raise money for the Dupont Circle Main Street Organization.  Mayor Adrian Fenty who is a strong promoter of gay rights was on hand to meet and greet the crowd.  This event is held annually on the Tuesday before Halloween.  Pub crawls commence after the race.
