On a vote of 220 to 215, Democrats, with the help of one Republican successfully passed the health care reform bill pushed by President Obama. The lone Republican voting in favor of the health care bill was Rep. Cao from Louisiana. The bill now moves to the Senate where its fate remains uncertain. Senate rules require 60 votes to close debate. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid has already indicated that he isn't sure when the bill will be called for a vote.
Earlier in the evening Politico, and other news sources, predicted that the health care bill would receive 228 yes votes. It appears that an amendment that would preclude federal funds to be used for abortions was enough to move some "blue dog" Democrats into voting for the main piece of legislation. President Obama is at Camp David and is expected to release a written statement in the near future.
