According the Joe Eitel's computer points, the Colerain Cardinals will miss the playoffs for the first time since 1999.
Colerain's playoff hopes in jeopardy
After dropping its first two games to St. Xavier and Elder, respectively, the Cardinals rattled off eight straight victories en route to another Greater Miami Conference championship. Colerain, who finished 7-0 in the conference, finished tied with Lakota West to share the title. The Firebirds opened the season with an one-point loss to Clayton Northmont and won nine straight to earn the six seed.
Colerain was ultimately done in by the GMC schedule makers. The Cardinals didn't play either Lakota West or Fairfield. The Indians finished 6-4 and fourth in the GMC. Along with Middletown, LWHS and Fairfield were the only four schools in the 10-team league to finish over .500.
Despite losing to Colerain two weeks ago, the Middletown Middies will give the conference its second berth in the playoffs. The Middies' playoff positioning will be determined by a game almost six hours away. Should East St. Louis (Ill.) beats Bradley-Bourbonnais, the Middies will earn a seven seed with Centerville being the eighth. An East St. Louis loss flips the seeding between Middletown and the Elks.
