Sesame chicken, spring rolls & pot stickers for kids at Ben Pao

When you get a taste for Chinese food and the kids roll their eyes, can you blame them? You’ve been trying salty ham fried rice and gelatinous chop suey on them for a few years and they still haven’t taken to it. Change their little minds with one visit to Ben Pao.

Ben Pao, (translation:"fireworks") serves China's four regional cuisines: Bracing Mongolian; light, crispy Cantonese; nourishing Shanghai; and taste tantalizing Sichuan.

Now, there’s a menu just for kids 12 and under giving them a taste of authentic, regional Chinese cookery in child-friendly presentation and portions and it’s easy on your wallet. Bring some drawing implements or let them do a word search on the paper menu while they wait for:

  • Dumpling soup - $4.95 (chicken broth, noodles and a chicken dumpling)
  • Spring rolls - $5.95
  • Chicken potstickers - $6.95
  • Crispy chicken bites - $6.95 (sweet & sour dipping sauce with white rice)
  • Sesame chicken - $6.95 (crispy chicken with caramelized soy glaze and white rice)
  • Orange chicken - $6.95 (crispy chicken with a sweet orange glaze and white rice)
  • Beijing beef - $6.95 (Mongolian-style beef with white rice)

For adults, the possibilities at the sleek Chicago restaurant are endless: delicate ginger-shrimp dumplings, cold peanut noodles, mu-shu style Hunan pork, Seven Flavor chicken (wok fried with lemon grass, roasted peanuts, chiles, hoisin sauce, thai basil, fresno and jalapeño peppers), spicy Dragon Noodles, Kung Pao beef and Sichuan bamboo prawns are just a few. Plus, there are Sichuan specials and a gluten-free menu.
