How about a romantic walk this winter through a winter wonderland? Enchantment abound every step you take. Have an affair with your pets at the pet park with this mountain retreat right in your backyard. Palmer park is located at the corner of Academy and Maizeland. This woodland paradise was donated by Colorado Springs founder General William Jackson Palmer, a generous and visionary man. He donated Palmer Park along with various other great natural reserves and parks in the late 1800's.
This sanctuary has an array of trails from horseback riding, mountain biking, jogging and hiking. There is even some rock climbing to be had. Almost a one-stop shop type of park. The Yucca area offers inspirational views in particular the Ute Crest side has left an impression on me. I can now see why Katharine Lee Bates was so inspired to write America the Beautiful, the view of Pikes Peak from here is truly enchanting. The Grand View Overlook is curently closed due to the winter conditions. Give it a shot when it re-opens for the "must-see" panoramic view.
Bathroom utilities, childrens playground, baseball field, and the sand volleyball pit (bring your own net), are some of the facilities it offers. There is a Marvin J. Urbin Youth Camp located in the park, as well. The dog park is a wonderful bonus. There are certain rules that need to be followed in the dog park area:
No more than 3 dogs per person. Once inside the encloseure, you can take the leash off your dog. Owners must pick up after their pets.
There is usually a 5 person average in the dog park at times. For the most part dog's will get along great but be mindful of your own pet's behavior. It would be sad to have a fight break out. It was great to watch the comaraderie between dog's. It was a really satisfying experience even if for just 20 minutes to let your pal out.
