Snowmobiling fever is here to stay

5 out of 6 people agree that snowmobiling rocks! I know, I asked them myself. Colorado is "snowmobiling country," in my opinion. This is a perfect time to get out there and start blazing the trails. If you don't have a snowmobile there are many places available to rent one. They usually offer pretty good deals and guided tours as well. The Trail Reports page on the Colorado Snowmobile Association Web site has plenty of places to ride your snowmobile in Colorado.

For more info: Try Snow Sledding in Colorado Springs. Also try some Night Light viewing, how romantic!

Stick to the trails, shoveling your snowmobile out of the snow is not particularly fun. Also, take a lunch, that way you can enjoy the scenic beauty and you can go further out without having to backtrack, so much. Lay down on your snowmobile, eat your lunch and take in the view of of the surrounding beauty shining in the bask of the sun.

Caution: Stick to the path! 6 inches off the path and you are done if you are on a trail sled.

Here is good advice when snowmobiling:  Bring a shovel, ride with two or more sleds, bring a friend, bring some tools and make sure to wear your helmet. Drowning, ladies and gentlemen, is a cause of snowmobile fatalities. Stay alert to your surroundings and have a good time.

A couple of my friends went snowmobiling, the adventure began with the ceremonial "unloading of the snowmobiles". They got dressed and suited up, turning the snowmobiles on and warming them up for about 5 minutes. They went up the snow covered road going 60 mph to find other sleds were going off the side of the road trying to make their own trails (path) only to get stuck. One guy even got his snowmobile stuck in the creek. They stopped and pulled him out with two tow ropes attached to two sleds. The poor guy was soaking wet and was greatful for the help. They continued up the road to find many 4x4 paths and hiking trails to be discovered.

Some paths cut through the trees, which make for an exciting ride. They whipped it and fish tailed it through the trees, ak on the trail they decide to go straight up the mountain and turn left or right at the very end of the peak and come down. One of the guys caught a rock at the apex of his turn. He came tumbling down shadowed by the grand snowmobile. It missed him, luckily as he swam out of the way. Just another day sledding for him. They stopped for lunch at a wide open clearing, where Adam put some bread crumbs in the palm of his hand and raised it in the air. To everyone's surprise a bird came and ate it out of his hand. We all tried it...(to be continued)
