The White House sent me a letter and a link to a video with Michelle Obama today speaking on behalf of the White House Office of Health Reform. Nancy-Ann Min DeParle is the unconfirmed Director of the White House Office of Health Reform. In the video First lady Michelle Obama talks about her daughter Sasha Obama when she came down with an illness that could have been life threatening.
On Nancy-Ann Min Deparle's wikipedia page there is some interesting information, it says that
"DeParle has drawn criticism for her lucrative service on corporate boards after her tenure in the Clinton administration. Msnbc.com reported that she was paid more than $6 million, and served as a director of half a dozen companies that faced federal investigations, whistleblower lawsuits and other regulatory actions. Many of these companies have a stake in the health care reform that she is leading."
"She served as a director of Accredo Health Inc., Boston Scientific, Cerner Corp., DaVita, Guidant, Medco Health Solutions, Speciality Laboratories, and Triad Hospitals. She was a managing director of CCMP Capital."
"On October 12, 2009, DeParle slandered PriceWaterhouseCoopers LLP, when she said, "those guys specialize in tax shelters; clearly, this is not their area of expertise." PriceWaterhouseCoopers, LLP is the world's largest professional services firm, which specializes in audit, tax and advisory services. The company has many major clients in the health care industry. Further, the company does not promote tax shelters."
Now whether there is any substance to all this I'm not at all sure, being a wikipedia editor myself I know that you can inject your slant into any piece you work on and this one does not sound like the most objective article I've ever read. One things for sure, after scoring six million Nancy knows how the game works with health insurance,.
It's a little different but kind of like in theory a young district attorney learning the system early in their career and then they switch sides and start defending the thugs.
In some states, maternity care is not covered because pregnancy can be seen as a pre-existing condition. Its even legal in some states to deny a woman coverage because shes been a victim of domestic violence. First Lady Michelle Obama looks at where health care policy and people's lives intersect. Two-time cancer survivor Roxi Griffin and HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius join her to discuss how the current system doesn't work for women and their families and why health insurance reform is so needed.
So that's Nancy-Ann Min Deparle's pitch , "health care is not working for many women". I think the pitch should be "health care is not working for some women", but that would not be forceful enough now would it.
