Just in time for Halloween, here is a list of the 13 Scariest Metal Songs. This list was chosen by my opinion alone, and if you have any favorites that I left out make sure to leave your best on the comments below. Now let's get to it.
13.) Anthrax - 'Among the Living': A tribute to the Stephen King masterpiece 'The Stand'. It tells the story of the end of the world caused by a plague created by our own government, and the battle between good and evil that follows.
12.) Marilyn Manson - 'Cryptorchid': There is something so simple yet so creepy about this track from Manson's Antichrist Superstar album that it can give you goose bumps if played enough on repeat.
11.) Rob Zombie - 'House of 1000 Corpses': Retelling of the grisly events that took place in this horror rockers first motion picture venture. With a creepy guitar, and sinister lyrics this song set up his movie perfectly.
10.) Chimaira - 'The Disappearing Sun': A goodbye letter during the apocalypse. Mark Hunter and crew really know how to make the end of the world brutal and melodic at the same time.
9.) Cannibal Corpse - 'A Skull Full of Maggots': You could really pick any song by these death metal masters. I picked this one because there is just something about bugs living inside you that freaks me out.
8.) GWAR - 'Fistful of Teeth': A battle ravaged warrior returns home with a woman that he stole. They get married and have a child only to have the warrior slay the woman and eat the child. Pure GWAR.
7.) Sepultura - 'Beneath the Remains': A tale of what is left after nuclear war brought to you by Max Cavalera and company. This is Sepultura at their best.
6.) King Diamond - 'The Candle': This made it more on the mood that King Diamond sets with the song than the song does lyrically.
5.) Iron Maiden - 'Fear of the Dark': Bruce Dickenson reminds us why we were scared of the dark as children. Maiden captures the feeling perfectly with their music and lyrics.
4.) Slipknot - 'Purity': A song so real it was removed from their original self titled album. When Taylor wrote the lyrics of Purity Knight being buried alive he believed them to be true, though they are not the song still leaves an impact of terror upon listening.
3.) Slayer - 'Dead Skin Mask': A song about one of the sickest killers in American history, Ed Gein, and the mask he made out of human flesh.
2.) Black Sabbath - 'Black Sabbath': It really captures the feel of impending doom with its thundering bass line, and Ozzy's screams for mercy.
1.) Metallica - 'One': In my opinion there is nothing more terrifying than the concept of this song. Just imagine being trapped in a bed with no sight, no voice, no hearing, no arms and no legs. The ability to even kill yourself has been taken from you. Metallica had to go to a dark place for this one, and the video they came out with it really put the nail in the coffin making this the scariest metal song of all time.
