Sadly, 40 years of beer, brats and celebration of everything Oktoberfest will come to an end this year.  One of the longest running festivals in Denver, this will be the last year of the popular annual Oktoberfest, as recently announced on Denver Oktoberfest's web site. But there’s still time to enjoy 2009 Oktoberfest in Denver, during two back-to-back weekends, beginning Friday, September 18 through Sunday, September 27. Photo: Oktoberfest Denver http://www.oktoberfestdenver.com

Located in Denver's “Ballpark Neighborhood” between 20th and 22nd Streets on Larimer Street, the annual Oktoberfest is a celebration of the German heritage from biers to brats and everything in between. Rows of picnic tables, music and a festival atmosphere await you.

For those that procrastinated and didn’t purchase their now-sold-out Great American Beer Festival ticket, Oktoberfest is a perfect consolation prize, so get your beer googles on early!  In fact, after sitting back and dancing to the “Chicken” or perfecting your polka at this giant party, you might not feel so bad to have missed that "other" festival!

Bring the entire family as Denver's Oktoberfest is a family-friendly event with its Karneval (carnival) featuring rides, amusements, and classic midway games for adults and children alike. Just like in Munich, the Karneval will be open throughout the evening.

Admission is free, but you’ll need cash or credit to sample the fine selection of German beer, such as Paulaner Oktoberfest and Hefe-Weizen, and hometown German cuisine of bratwurst, apple strudel, schnitzel, giant pretzels and sauerbraten.

2009 Festival Hours

  • Fridays, September 18 & 25: 5 p.m. to 1 a.m.
  • Saturdays, September 19 & 26: 11 a.m. to 1 a.m.
  • Sundays, September 20 & 27: 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

More info on the recent announcement, as announced on their website: “A recent change to the Oktoberfest Denver plans for 2009 include, ‘Danke schön!,’ a German thank you to attendees, volunteers and sponsors over the last 40 years, as the festival organizer announces that 2009 will mark the final Oktoberfest celebration. The 40th anniversary of Oktoberfest will be the end of Larimer Associates’ production of the annual festival and will serve as a thank you to all that have attended over the years. Please join us in hoisting a stein and toasting its great legacy initiated 40 years ago. All 2009 events and programming will proceed as planned.”
