Quark Expeditions, the world leader in polar adventures, has launched a competition that will entitle one fearless adventurer and a companion to travel to Antarctica at no cost. To enter, a competitor must post one entry of no more than 300 words that captures the imagination and excitement of blog readers around the world.
Why Antarctica? Two weeks is hardly enough time to explore Antarctica. The Antarctic Peninsula, that part of the continent that points toward the tip of South America, is so long that it spans 12 degrees of latitude, approximately 800 miles. Humans never inhabited Antarctica and exploration of the continent is relatively recent. New discoveries continue to be made, and probably the most appealing aspect is its wildlife. Penguin populations alone are counted in the tens of thousands.
No doubt that Quark Expeditions is out to generate some publicity for its Antarctica expeditions, but it’s also quite an amazing, once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for the winning blogger and companion. The winner will be determined by popular vote, although voters can change their vote throughout the competition. Only one vote is permitted, but this ups the excitement of the entries right to the end.
More about the blogging "job": The Official onboard Quark Blogger will sail for free, along with a companion, to Antarctica, February 20 to March 3, 2010. The blogger will be required to post a minimum of 24 blog entries between February 15 and March 5, 2010, but honestly, how could you resist with the magnificent views of the Antarctica and wildlife surrounding you?
