Central City

If you’re looking for a spooky adventure, rev up your engines and head to Central City Creepy Crawl http://www.centralcityparkway.com/creepycrawl/ , a haunted tour this Saturday, October 24. You’ll see some fall foliage and get a good scare.

From yearly sightings of the Columbine Lady at John Cameron’s grave, to photographs of orbs in certain haunted buildings, 150 years of history in Central City has provided plenty of evidence of ghosts and the supernatural.

For the first time in 10 years, the Gilpin Historical Society will present some of this evidence and let visitors decide for themselves which of the ghosts are real, and which are perhaps only legends. The Central City Creepy Crawl, a 60-90 minute lantern tour of some of the most haunted places in Central City, is free for the first 150 people to reserve their spot on each of the first four Saturdays in October.

“Through the Central City Creepy Crawl, Coloradans will have a new option for exploring haunts and ghosts – in one of Colorado’s oldest towns, Central City,” said Linda Jones, director of the Gilpin Historical Society. “150 years of mining, gun-fighting and the like have produced oodles of ghost stories, and lots of sightings, in spots throughout our historic mining and gambling town.”

What:
The Central City Creepy Crawl is a 60-90 minute lantern tour of haunted spots in this 150-year-old mining and gambling town. Guides will tell many of the stories, while “ghosts” along the way will surprise guests and elaborate further on some of the most interesting of the ghost stories.

When:
One more tour remains this Saturday, October 24. The first tour will leave at 7 p.m., and then every 5-7 minutes until 7:30 p.m. (Tours will NOT be offered on Halloween night, Saturday, October 31.)

Where:
The tours meet at the corner of Lawrence and Main Streets in Central City, in front of Century Casino. Free parking is available at Century Casino.

Reservations:
The tour is FREE but reservations are required.
Go to http://www.centralcityparkway.com/creepycrawl/ to make your reservation, or call 303-345-6315.

Don’t Forget:
Significant walking is involved, including steep hills and stairways, so sturdy shoes and a healthy spirit are a must.

MORE ABOUT CENTRAL CITY: Less than 30 miles from downtown Denver, Central City offers one of the best nearby options for fall travel, whether the goal is a half-day break from the city or an indulgent weekend getaway. And the Central City Parkway is a drive that will take you to another time. As you travel the wide open Central City Parkway from I-70, you're transported back to the Old West, where you can walk the historic streets of Central City, take in a museum, some music or have dinner, or even partake in more exciting pursuits of Black Jack, poker or slots. Just 30 minutes from Denver, but centuries back in time, Central City is a fitting end to eight miles of scenic views along the Central City Parkway.
