Sunday night a fight broke out in Providence at the Rhode Island High School girls soccer team state championship game. The two teams were playing in the state finals…this is the best of the best? One of the girls drags another across the soccer field by her hair. Then a fight breaks out in the crowd of the Rhode Island High School girls soccer team game on Sunday night. What is it with all of the extreme violence in women’s soccer all of the sudden?
The BYU vs. New Mexico women’s soccer game from last Thursday has been all over the internet over the past few days. Elizabeth Lambert took six cheap shots at members of the BYU game in Utah at their state championship game and yes, New Mexico was behind 1-0. But Lambert has been indefinitely suspended from playing any sport at New Mexico University because of it. The story was even televised on The Today Show on Monday, to view that story click here. Why all of the violence? These are young girls playing the sport they love, and should be setting an example for the younger girls who want to emulate them. Are they that upset that they are losing? Why don’t they have more control over their actions? If these girls treat each other this way on the field when people are watching, how do they treat each other off the field?
