Last night, the Machida vs Shogun fight caused quite a controversy at the Staples Center in Los Angeles. In the UFC 104 mixed martial arts fight Lyoto "The Dragon" Machida defeated Mauricio “Shogun” Rua in what appeared to be an equal fight with Rua leading, but a unanimous decision from all three judges generated a debate among fans and they booed the judges. The final score was Machida 48-47.
Rua, considered the underdog was quick on his feet, and delivered some bloody punches. Machida had not lost a round in the last seven UFC fights. Last night, there were several rounds when it looked liked Rua would win, but the judges said otherwise.
After the fight, Rua said: “My corner told me that I was winning all the rounds. I feel like I won this fight, but a fight is a fight. What can I do?"
Machida who was beaten pretty badly by his contender, said that it was his most difficult fight so far, and he welcomed a rematch which drew cheers from the audience. "Whenever he wants," Machida said. "No problem," ESPN reported.
In Salt Lake City, groups gathered at friends to watch the PPV fight on Comcast. When the judges announced that Machida was the winner, Diana Velasquez of Salt Lake City said, "I think Rua was robbed, I thought he was the better fighter."
