On a recent and surprisingly balmy Sunday afternoon, the football field at the Goleta Boys & Girls Club was transformed into a playground for a passel of pampered poodles. Although the invitation read “Standard Poodle Party,” there was every size, shape and color of poodle imaginable, along with some totally terrific terriers, cute Chihuahuas, and at least one precocious pug.
The party for said oodles of poodles (I never seem to tire of saying this!) featured brightly colored bandanas to gussy up each four-legged guest, a doggie version of musical chairs (you had to be there to appreciate the cuteness of it all), a silent auction, and goodie bags for each participant. All proceeds from the poodle party went to benefit Cold Noses, Warm Hearts, a brand spankin’ new non-profit group founded by Annabelle Hofmann, owner of The Little Dog House in Goleta.
A long-time dog groomer and animal rescuer, Hofmann says that her organization has a mighty mission: to save dogs whose lives are in jeopardy. “Through rescue from kill shelters, rehabilitation of sick and unsocialized pets, and a 100% spay/neuter policy, we hope to help reduce pet overpopulation and place all dogs in loving homes,” Hofmann wrote in a recent CNWH newsletter.
All in all, the day was a huge success and the poodles and their people went home pooped, but happy.
