On Tuesday, November 3 at 1:30 pm, the first of two hearings on a new ordinance to help increase spaying and neutering, and thus help reduce pet overpopulation in Santa Barbara County, will take place during the Board of Supervisors meeting, which will be held at 105 E. Anapamu St., 4th floor. A second hearing will take place the following Tuesday, November 10 in Santa Maria (time TBA).
Lee Heller, a long-time animal activist who is spearheading efforts locally, has requested that animal lovers attend these hearings and, if possible, speak in support of the ordinance. You needn't deliver a long statement -- you can limit your talk to a ten-second, "I support this important new law -- please vote for it." Lee also asks that if you are fostering, or have recently adopted a shelter animal, that you bring along a picture of your fosters/adoptees to hold up when you address the Supervisors.
If you'd rather not speak, but would still like to attend the meeting and show your support, look for Lee in a bright yellow shirt; she will give you a yellow armband to wear, which clearly and colorfully announces your support of the ordinance.
