American Girl - Naughty or Nice?
Popular doll maker American Girl has turned up on the Liberty Counsel's seventh annual "Friend or Foe" Christmas Campaign along with KB Toys and Disney. Liberty Counsel releases its "Naughty & Nice" checklist every year to help shoppers know which businesses support Christmas so consumers will know which retailers they might or might not want to support this Christmas.
Friend or Foe List
The "Friend or Foe" list released today catalogs businesses which either censor ("Naughty") or recognize ("Nice") Christmas. Those on the "Naughty" list promote sales heavily at Christmas while never mentioning Christmas by name. According to the 2009 list, the American Girl Web site featured the ad slogan “joy to the girl” on home page. The day I visited, it read "twinkle twinkle inner star." Liberty Counsel also points out the American Girl web site "mentions 'Holiday' everywhere but no mention of 'Christmas' except items named by manufacturers."
KB Toys and Disney Also on Naughty List
Other popular doll retailers also making the naughty list this year were KB Toys and Disney.
Liberty Counsel says KB Toys mentions Dec. 25 on their web site, but makes no mention of “Christmas” in their “Holiday Toy" section. However when I visited, the KB site, it said "coming soon" and referred me to www.toys.com.
About Disney the checklist states, "Shopping site: 'Holiday Shop' but no mention of 'Christmas.'”
