"Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian" easily won the weekend box office war, earning $53.5 million in its first weekend. By the end of Monday it is expected to gather $68 million in receipts for Twentieth Century Fox, says Phil Contrino of Box Office.com.
Warner Brothers Pictures earned $43.1 million with "Terminator Salvation," falling short of expectations, possibly due to poor word-of-mouth resulting from less than enthusiastic reviews.
"Star Trek" and "Angels & Demons" came in close with $21.9 million and $21.4 million respectively to land the number three and four slots.
