Watch professional ice carvers turn ice into art during St. Charles, Missouri's 11th annual Fete de Glace. The ice festival is Saturday, January 31, 2009, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Winners of the ice carving competition are judged by the crowd. Attendees determine the winners of both the individual and team competitions.
Individual competition takes place in the morning (each artist competes using one block of ice); the afternoon continues with the team competition (two-person teams compete using five blocks of ice each).
Coffee and hot chocolate will be available and there will be nearby fire pits to warm up. The Festival of Ice will go on even if there is sleet or snow because cold weather is a good thing. Admission is free and handicapped accessible.
The Historic Downtown Association hopes chilly observers will want to take an indoor break at one of the restaurants, eateries or watering holes on Main Street. Click http://www.historicstcharles.com/ to find out more about restaurant and nearby accommodations.
The official Visitors Guide can be downloaded or you can ask for one by mail.
