If you're not sure what You Version is, you're missing out on one of the best free applications for BlackBerrys, especially if you're an avid reader of the bible.  You Version is an app that has 16 English translations of the entire bible, a daily reading plan, contributions, and much more.  All for the amazing price of free.

You can download the app by going to You Version in your phone's browser   The app, of course, if free, and takes up very little memory, considering everything it has to offer, which is outlined below.

  • The Entire Bible - All 66 books are viewable on your phone in 16 different translations.  They are transmitted over your phones data connection and therefore don't take up your phone's memory.  However, if you don't have a data plan, then you're not going to want to use You Version.  You have the option to either search by passage or keyword or book by book.
  • Contributions - If you are a member of the You Version online community (more on that can be found by checking out the Dallas Christian Living Examiner'srecent review of YouVersion.com) then you are able to make a contribution to a certain passage of scripture and then view it on your phone.  As of yet, you can't make the contributions on your phone, but that should be something that might be added to later versions of the application.  There are also contributions from various authors and biblical scholars in this section
  • Daily Reading - You Version contains a daily reading plan that will help get you through the entire bible.  The plan was developed over 100 years ago by Robert Roberts, and is a great resource to help discipline you to get through all 66 books.  When you're carrying them all on your phone, accessing them is a breeze, no matter where you are.
  • You Version Live - This is something that was just added to version 2.0.03 of the software.  By using your phone's GPS or entering your location, you can look up local events that different churches or organizations are hosting.  This is another feature that is available using the full website from your computer.

If you're the type of person who would like to have the entire bible in various translations at your fingertips, then You Version is the app for you!  Check out more great apps that are available for your phone right HERE, and make sure you subscribe to the Dallas BlackBerry Examiner's articles for all the latest and greatest that RIM has to offer!
