Arrival Experience: As soon as you turn into the magnificent driveway that winds its way to the front door, the aura that this property is "something different" is already in place. Its namesake boulders tower over the landscape in an almost surreal fashion lending a unique and distinguishing appeal that no other property in the area can replicate. Once the large wooden doors are swung open, guests are treated to a sit-down reception where staffers rush to minimize the wait offering bottled water and a friendly smile to ease the wait. Don’t lose the map as this sprawling property has a lot to offer. While golf carts whisk guests to and fro, part of the adventure of this place is exploring the grounds on your own to experience walking in between the majestic boulders.

Dining: The resort’s main restaurant features indoor and outdoor seating (the latter is ideal at breakfast with views of the trimmed, vibrant green golf course). The cuisine incorporates a blend of styles, but has a notable accent for Southwestern cuisine with peppers and chipotle frequently appearing on the menu. Guests can nosh by the pool, in the lobby bar, at the spa café, or on their desertview patio if they wish.

Accommodations: Golf carts are the main mode of transportation when heading to the secluded casitas spread across the meticulously kept grounds. Hidden between boulders, on the edge of the golf course or with breathtaking desert or distant cliff views, the guest rooms offer immense space and the utmost in privacy. The Southwestern décor is duly noted, but it is the unexpected extras that make this place even more special. Rooms have spacious living areas flanked by adobe fireplaces, furnished balconies, humongous closets, and bedtime story books as an added bonus. Ceiling fans, brisk air conditioning, and complimentary high speed Internet are highly appreciated.

Conclusion: No visit would be complete here without a visit to the infamous Golden Door Spa where relaxation sets in once past the front gate. Trickling fountains, meditation areas, and soothing music align the chakras within seconds (even for guests who didn’t realize they even had a chakra). It’s impossible not to feel comforted here. Try the adobe clay wrap for a local touch. Regional mud and clay is slathered onto the body to remove impurities and then washed away to leave the skin feeling soft, detoxified, and glowing. Additional recreation comes in the form of tennis, golf, swimming, and hiking. Meeting facilities bring groups together with ease while preserving the intimacy of the resort. The Boulders lives up to its name amassing an immense reputation for style and comfort in a setting unlike anything else in Scottsdale.
