On the afternoon of November 7th, an ‘One Year Tea Party’ on the southwest side was held in Wentworth Park in the Garfield Ridge neighborhood. On a day that was warm and clear, 150+ people gather to send a message to Cong. Lipinski to vote no on the governments dictating health care reform bill.
In-between the call to get out the cell phones to call Cong. Lipinski’s Washington number and the singing of patriotic songs; the people heard speeches from a gentlemen who live under a socialistic government and came to American to escape this type of rule, a doctor who practiced medicine under the same system our legislators are creating, Mr. Cole of National Taxpayers Union, Republican candidate for governor, Adam Andrzejewski and John Bambenek of Illinois Citizens Coalition who spoke about his “The Putback Amendment”; Mr. Bambenek also gathered signatures on his petition to get the amendment on the ballot.
Also present at the rally was Independent candidate for governor, Michael White, youth from Year of Youth Project 2012, Republican candidate for U.S. Senate, Patrick Hughes, 16th District Cook County Commissioner Tony Peraica, and a variety of people handing out fliers, brochures and information.
Participates at the event held up signs of protest and all were in agreement with voting out legislators that are in office now, especially those that vote yes on the health care bill. The increase of young people attending the event was heartily noticed and welcomed at the event, which lasted an hour past what was announced. When all was said and done, many adjourned to a local restaurant to discuss and celebrate a day well done.
