Research suggests that drinking tea may have positive effects on body weight, fat accumulation and insulin activity.

Gina Wu, of Tea GW, a tea expert agreed to talk to me about the top 5 types of teas people can drink that are believed to help facilitate weight loss.

Can drinking green tea really help people lose weight?

Recently, at the Unilever R & D Center in Shanghai, China, The Fudan University School of Medicine (China), The Institute of Lipton Tea and several other agencies found that the catechins in green tea may have the body composition and fat distribution to have a beneficial impact.

Additionally, green tea contains theophylline and caffeine that can be activated by the many roles of protein kinase and triglyceride lipase to reduce the accumulation of fat cells.

Other researches have also found that green tea extract was found to significantly increase 24 hour energy expenditure and fat oxidation in healthy men.

In an article published in January of 2001 in the Journal of Nutritional Biochemistry, Ming-Hua Yang et al. found that green tea burned more fat than oolong tea and black tea in rats with high levels of fat in their blood. They concluded that fat metabolism is greater with green tea consumption than it is with oolong or black tea.

Pu'erh teas are also known for their weight-loss benefits. Drinking Pu'erh after eating a meal can stimulate metabolism and accelerate fat loss. Due to Pu'erh's unique fermentation process, it increases the enzyme decomposition around the waist/abdominal areas. The aspergillus in Pu'erh contains a small amount of fat decomposition enzyme/yeast. This enhances the fat decomposition process. The aspergillus bacteria in Pu’erh helps to maintain our weight and prevents weight-gain. It also helps to lower cholesterol and body fat.

Tie Guan Yin is known as the "beauty tea" and” slimming tea." Scientific analysis shows that Tie Guan Yin tea contains a high amount of amino acids, vitamins, minerals, polyphenols and alkaloids. Tie Guan Yin promotes weight loss, helps to lower cholesterol and helps reduce the chance of cardiovascular disease and diabetes.
