Black metal, much like vodka, has always been an European specialty. Venom, whom started it all, hailed from England and some of the most notorious black metal bands/artists, such as Gorgoroth, Mayhem and Burzum, have hailed from the ungodly cold known as Norway. Even death metal has its own flavor in Sweden, with its black metal; Swedish Blackend Death Metal. Like Tampa death, Swedish death or black is virtually recognizable anywhere. However, what if the melody style of Sweden comes to the brutal and technical domain of Florida? Just drop the murders, the arsons and all the other off-stage antics that Europeans are known for and leave it all on stage and in the music. That is what the difference between Swedish black/death metal and Florida black/death metal is.
And leaving it all in the music isn't hard when you're fronted by one of the most talented front women in metal today. Wykked Wytch has put a spell on Florida and now we're theirs! Black metal in every sense of the word. Vocals, guitars, keyboards, drums. Only time when this band isn't black metal is when they turn it up a brutal notch to become death metal, which they do quite a number of times. Four albums of true black metal screeching, death metal growling, evil riffs, booming beats and a melody that makes the world go around. Two devil horns high!
Hello, Cradle of Filth? I think you forgot something. Wykked Wytch is not slowing down anytime soon. Four albums deep and they have only scratched the surface. The book has been written, we're just on the first page with this band. Miami, Tampa, Gainesville, hell all of Florida. No salt is going to keep them away, Wykked Wytch is here to stay.
