In the afternoon of November 9th, I was able to sit down with Falling Awake front man, Gomez. As the Tampa METAL Music Examiner, I was slow to agree to do anything with Falling Awake, unless I see them live, because they are rock. But with Gomez constant requests, I caved in and gave him an interview. This is what happened.
WARNING! Gomez and I used vulgar language throughout the interview. This may not be suitable for younger readers.

Tampa Metal Music Examiner: I'm here with the man who looks like he lived in the Smurfs toilet, front man of Falling Awake and long lost Addams Family member, Gomez. Gomey, thanks for joining me. What is with the "Smurfs just crapped on me" look?
Gomez: It's warpaint. I was a big fan of "Tapout" co-founder, Charles "Mask" Lewis, it's kinda a tribute to him since his passing. Actually, I have a quote of his that I try and live by now.
T.M.M.E: And what would that be? Papa Smurf knows best?
Gomez: The quote is, and its a long one but a good one...
Life is full of influences, It's your application that sets you apart. That's something I wrote to myself and completely believe in. You can't be scared to set out to do something in life because you believe it may be similar to something, or because you don't know the clear cut path on how you're going to accomplish your goal or dream! Just take a step towards your belief daily - fearlessly, wholeheartedly, digging and dreaming within yourself, believing that as you push on through sacrifice, you will one day stand alone on top of a hill that you created that now encourages and inspires others to chase their dream. Knowing that through tenacity and patience anything can be achieved. If you simply believe.
T.M.M.E: That wasn't a quote, that was a passage from a story! Do your get-up is tribute to Mask. What's the reason for Falling Awake? Tribute to Jim Henson?
G: Ha, Na the clothes, and trinkets, and crosses, and dog tags, and that stuff is all me. The warpaint is a tribute, I'm just nuts I think. Nor can I dress for anything, so I just go with distract 'em with trinkets. Um... the original band, Nathan Joseph of "Murdok', Myself, Billy of "Situation Mine", and Chris were sitting round, thinking of band names. I said Falling Awake. Within 2 minutes we had agreed on a band name, I hear this usually takes longer. Falling Awake to me reminded me of the time when your just waking up from a dream, ya know when everything seems either totally great, or really f'n chaotic.
T.M.M.E: That was probably the most rambled on, inherent, knock down, drag me to the chick flick answer I have ever gotten. Would you ever do a bullfrog to a goat in the monkey exhibit?
G: My answer to that is: Taco. Funny you say Chick flick, our drummer Jorge or "Padre" , loves chick flicks. He loves 'em all day , ALL THE TIME! Hi Jorge!
T.M.M.E: How long have you been singing? Anything in your childhood made you wanna get up on stage and fall right off while singing?
G: Oh shut the hell up, I didn't fall, I tripped on the f'n speaker that was 2 inches shorter than the other 5 i was walking on... and did I stop singing? Hells no! Because the Jager keeps ya safe! I think I wanted to be a singer since I saw a tape of the Doors in Miami, long time ago, yes a VHS tape. By the way , that was a great show that night all around. Gasoline Alley was going off that night.
T.M.M.E: Truly a fun night. You know, until Cuntsinity played. How about the Showcase? With the stage falling onto your set? Do you think I'm the curse of Falling Awake?
G: No.. that's just rock man. Doesn't stop us from playing, as you can see. Jorge didn't miss a beat when the mic fell on him and his kit. Did ya see my ego box's light short out under my foot that day?
T.M.M.E: Don't think so. For those new to you and your close calls on stage, how can you explain the style of Falling Awake? And was it the style you were going for, or did you want to go lighter or heavier?
G: Heavier.. we kinda started as rap/rock/metal... with Greg (guitarist) we kinda got more rock.... Jorge and myself like playing Heavy... we like energy, pits, and screaming once in a while.. dont get me wrong we like some softer stuff once in a while... but once in a while. we are probably best known for our song "Wasted", which is slower.. but its the only slower one. We have been called "Dark Alternative" rock.. and we can live with that, I kinda like that.
T.M.M.E: And once in a while I like a corndog. You've shared the stage with quite a good number of bands. What are your favorite bands to play with? And who, if any, would you rather not be anywhere near?
G: I personally liked Ra, and Resin a ton, despite not being our particular style, I like the Framing Hanley guys, they are cool people very humble and respectful. Not Tonight Josephine and us seem to play together every month, great guys, Murdok Rocks. as for who we don't wanna play with again.. our old bassist. I know we don't wanna play at NEPTUNE LOUNGE IN TARPON SPRINGS ever again, but as for musicians... it is what it is... we play for the fans of music, not for the other bands ... so whatever if a band wants to act like dicks, let them, doesn't reflect us. Screw them.
T.M.M.E: So much for stirring up band rivalries. Speaking of rivalries. Rumor has it you beat the hell out of your guitarist. Confirm or deny?
G: Bassist. Confirm.
T.M.M.E: Speaking of rumors coming to a close, a rumor that J-Rock, of the Rock Solid Pressure show, is dead. He is not dead just had the adult chickenpox. How you find out and would you play a benefit show for him?
G: Obviously if we are able to, and I heard from Patty's Blog on MySpace Today.
T.M.M.E: Would you replace David Lee Roth to join Van Halen or Vince Neil to be in Motley Crue?
G: Neither, They both rock just fine like that.., we have a joke in Falling Awake.WVND... what would Vince Neil do? I choose Crue. and How come Sebastian Bach never gets any love? Skid f'n Row!
T.M.M.E: Because Skid Row is from Jersey and no one cares about Jersey. Anything new for Falling Awake? Obviously you need a new bassist. Any shows or albums coming out?
G: We actually need a new bassist and Guitarist. but have it covered until we find them.... We do have a show December 2nd @ State Theater w/ SKINDRED! / Stuk and Nine Mile drive... its gonna be off the f'n chain.... lemme put it like this.. you haven't seen us this brutal yet, but your gonna this December.
T.M.M.E: Falling Awake is going brutal. Well we're almost out of time. Gomez thanks for joining me. Is there anything you'd like to say before I cut this conversation?
G: Music needs to be heard live to be appreciated... come out to the shows, not just ours but every ones... do not let radio stations decide what you hear... show support.. Florida's music needs to be back on the map.. we play hard for you all everyday, and without you we ain't anything so come out and let us entertain you, but decide with your own ears... Peace! And thank you, Wes.
