D.I.Y. employee engagement: engage in one job while looking for another

You're happy in your current job. Or you're not.
You're not planning to leave your company right now. But you might.
Part of your mind thinks about greener pastures while another part thinks it's not so bad where you are now. Part of your personal vision sees you enjoying a bigger, faster, more dynamic job while another part sees you continuing happily on your current road.
To keep your current work successful and satisfying, maintaining or increasing your engagement there is critical. To keep your options and your mental well-being open, being engaged in OJP (other job possibilities) is pretty important, too.
So...here are just 3 D.I.Y. engagement tips for you to try.
Look for a specific way to improve your work process. Doesn't mean you're doing anything wrong; you just want to find some small, medium or large change that will make the work faster, smoother, fewer errors...
Make it a point to talk to someone about what you're doing and what they're doing. This may be someone who works alongside you, in a sister department, or across the company. It may be someone working at locating a new job.
Keep your eyes and mind open for someone who visibly enjoys what they're doing. Make some time to observe that person at work. Note (or guess!) where their pleasure comes from. What would it take for you to feel that way about whatever work you do, whatever work you're looking for? (This may be someone inside or outside your company.)
Of course, the secret is that each tip invites your engagement...in looking for ways and reasons to engage.
