Some points to remember when encouraging your children to be active are:

1.  Explain that a 30 minute "active time" can be broken down into three 10 minute time frames throughout the day. This can be three different activities or one activity done three times during the day.

2.  Personality of your child needs to be considered when encouraging him/her to be active.  Don't force your child into an uncomfortable exercise setting or format that conflicts with his/her nature.  Everyone is different.  Some children enjoy being active in a gym setting while others prefer alone time  when exercising.  Some children are just not "sports group" oriented.  Help your child  find the right setting/ comfort level  so he/she will stay active.

3,  Stress the point that expensive clothes/equipment aren't  necessary to gain the benefits from physical activity.  A good family walk, jumping rope, shooting baskets, playing catch, etc. are great ways to get the family active and moving together.   A fun, simple creative hopscotch game can be found in the article A Children's Creative Hopscotch Game.  Also try a fun twist on ball handling skills found in the article Coordination Skills for Children Need to Be Practiced
