Twilight-movie

Young hearts are fluttering everywhere for Robert Pattinson, 22, whose birthday is next week, May 13. Love stories linking him with everyone from his Twilight Saga co-star, Kristen Stewart, to Joe Jonas’s girlfriend, to a Brazilian model he’s never met make the covers of magazines and just as quickly get shot down.

Pattinson plays Edward Cullen, Bella’s vampire boyfriend in the Twilight movie and upcoming sequels. He plays a lot of other people’s boyfriend in romantic daydreams now playing daily in theaters of the mind all across the land!

When Pattinson speaks in interviews about dating and love, he says he is romantic and protective, but he also describes himself as unfeeling and paranoid. What’s up with that? Can you be all those things at once? Absolutely. A peek at the astrology of Pattinson’s natal chart confirms that he is romantic and protective, even sensitive and brooding, but he also does have a strong tendency to intellectualize his feelings when it comes to love relationships – thinking about love more than really feeling it – and he can be very suspicious.

Apparently he is very self-aware and has great insight into his natural tendencies, since he is able to speak openly about his internal contradictions.

What his stars show that perhaps Pattinson doesn’t yet know is that the most dominant force in his birth chart is not his Taurus sun but his Cancer moon. Pattinson is what some astrologers call a Lunarian. Writer Ambrose Bierce once said a Lunarian is “An inhabitant of the moon, as distinguished from Lunatic, one whom the moon inhabits.” In astrology the term refers to someone whose ways are more influenced by the moon than by the sun or any other planet. Robert Pattinson’s stars align that way.

By sun sign, Pattinson is a Taurus, ruled by Venus. Taurus is known for being romantic, interested in the arts and, more often than not, very nice looking. He certainly reflects all those Taurean qualities. “I’ve never really fallen in love, but I try to be as romantic as possible,” the handsome actor and musician said in comments reported by a celebrity website

By moon sign, he’s a Cancer, ruled by the moon. The moon’s dominance in his chart comes partly from the fact that on the day he was born, May 13, 1986 in London, the moon was “at home” in Cancer, which is the sign she rules. The moon is also connected through important alignments to many other planets in his birth chart, spreading the lunar influence wide.

Among those alignments, the moon was linked by lucky trine to Pluto, another planet that was “at home.” Pluto was in Scorpio, the sign Pluto rules. That trine adds a prominent Scorpio dash of deep and sexy qualities to the caring and protective qualities of Pattinson’s Cancer moon. Both signs are highly emotional – with a noticeable paranoid streak!

Both the Cancer and Scorpio qualities wrapped into Pattinson’s lunar side jump out at you when you read a quote like this one, where Pattinson is worrying about the people he loves who aren’t famous and the affect on them of his newfound fame:

“I’m always really worried about ruining their lives. Especially with people that aren't famous. It’s such a massive change. I’m kind of a paranoid wreck.” That self-assessment was part of an interview Pattinson gave Entertainment Tonight

His natal Venus, ruler of his sun sign and ruler of desire, is in Gemini. This is where he talks himself right back out of love. Gemini intellectualizes the experience of emotion and evaluates it from many perspectives. A person with a Gemini Venus also wants variety and freedom and lots of new experiences, in contrast with a moon in Cancer, which wants the security of settling down.

This story Pattinson told to a reporter is amazing for illustrating so much of what his sun, moon and Venus say about him. See if you can pick out which planetary influence is which.

“I remember when I was a teenager thinking my girlfriend was cheating on me,” he said. “And going around riling myself up, pretending to cry. It was totally illegitimate – I actually didn’t feel anything. And I got into my dog’s bed. I was crying and holding on to the dog. I woke up in the morning, and the dog was looking at me like, ‘You’re a fake.’ ”

Everyone has a range of natural responses, lots of different sides to himself or herself, and part of our internal challenge as human beings is to find a way to balance and integrate those into a whole sense of self. The years from about 20-35 are really good for that.

So who will Robert Pattinson fall in love with when he has thought it through enough and decided that it’s OK to fall into and feel romantic love? He will probably do a good bit of Gemini dating around. But in the end, odds are his moon sign will win out and he’ll approach love like a Cancer, the most maternal of the signs. He’ll want someone nurturing and affectionate and always there for him. To quote an old nostalgic song, he’ll want a girl just like the girl who married dear old dad.
