Power issues will manifest at each change of season
in 2009.

Don’t shrug off the power trips and powerful ideas you encounter in these early days of spring. Some of these are likely to be outrageous examples of attempts to use raw power. Others will challenge you at such basic levels that they’ll seem absurd. But others may open interesting possibilities that could eventually overturn established powers.

Remember the scene in Braveheart where William Wallace returns to the village of his childhood? He is standing at a wedding celebration when a large man steps in front of him and drops a massive rock at his feet.

William: You dropped your rock.
Hamish: Test of manhood.
William: You win.
Hamish: Call it a test of soldiery, then. The English won't let us train with weapons, so we train with stones.
William: Well, a test of a soldier is not in his arm, it's here (mind).
Hamish: No, it's here (arm).
(Hamish hits William)
William: Hamish?
Hamish: Mm-hmm.

In the movie version of Wallace’s story, a raw-power dare between friends has everything to do with a later and far greater transformation of political power in Scotland. In this next week or so, the power plays could be absurd or potentially transformative, but keep in mind that they’re part of a much larger revolution in our shared human reality. At the very least it will be worth your while to conscious observe what’s at stake in the challenges you catch wind of or become involved in at this time.

The transformation of institutions of power – from big business to government to religion – is a major issue on the agenda astrologically for our era. Pluto moved into Capricorn at the time of the December 2008 winter solstice. Pluto hasn’t been in Capricorn since the American Revolution, and before that not since the Protestant Reformation. This is a big deal, and an era of major change has begun.

Right now, just after the spring equinox, the sun in Aries is in square aspect to Pluto in Capricorn, and so are the planets closest to the sun, Venus and Mercury. When the sun is in any of the four corners of the year – Aries, Cancer, Libra and Capricorn – Pluto’s power will be most prominent. In other words, power issues will be most obvious right at the time of every change of season this year (and for several years to come). This is one of those weeks. So keep your eyes peeled for those power trips, and try not to get slugged in the face.
