Like sugar or salt in water, this new moon in Pisces is a dissolving moon. That’s a bit of a paradox, because new moons are times for initiation in western astrology, and surely President Obama took advantage of that initiating energy in scheduling the first major public address of his presidency right at the time of the new moon.
But I’ll tell you what, I couldn’t have done it. This Piscean new moon is taking place at the point in space that marks my natal Mars, which is to say, my get-up-and-go, my active will – and I feel like I’m swimming through Jello.
Whatever area of life this new moon touches within your own astrological profile, that’s the area that will feel a bit like an impressionist or pointillist painting over the next few days … or like a watercolor left lying in the mist. As it is with every new moon in every sign, we get the opportunity but once a year to stand in this particular astrological weather and choose how to move in it. When our lives begin to feel like one big, jam-packed, never-ending To Do list, so that our soundtrack sounds like “and then … and then … and then,” the Pisces new moon comes along and says, “Don’t just do something; stand there.”
This is a meditative, healing and artistic period. The boundaries are loose and dissolving along the edges of those thoughts and maladies and perceived restrictions on our creativity that sometimes seem like such solid entities. At times like these we get a glimpse into the reality that nothing is solid and everything is moving.
For those of us in the northern hemisphere, this 12th sign of the zodiac is the time of the completion of the natural year, a time of preparation for life beginning anew when the upcoming vernal equinox takes us into spring. So it is time to let some elements of ourselves dissolve into the cosmic waters, making room within us for the new growth in identity that arises in Aries.
The energies of nature will be with you this month if you choose to let things go, to let things float away, to give up your hold on them, your control over them, your clinging to them as though they were ever really you to begin with. Which things, of course, depends on you and on which things are telling you it is their time. Don’t fret over empty spaces they may leave within you. Nature abhors a vacuum, and you’ll be called upon to plant new seeds of your identity and tend new growth in your garden at the Aries new moon.
