I hereby declare February 2009 to be Virgo Appreciation Month. I have to wonder what the world would be like if we hadn’t had determined and focused Virgos like Jane Addams, Lance Armstrong, Warren Buffett, Sean Connery, Elvis Costello, Stephen King and Mother Theresa, each one them doing their own particular thing, day after day, cause after cause, mile after mile, book after book – with the remarkable ability to stick to the task, no matter what, and to “keep on keeping on” with no end in sight.

Virgo, your February horoscope says this should be the month you get due recognition for all the hard work and perseverance you bring to this life in all kinds of areas and in ways big and small. Now, if that appreciation doesn’t seem to be forthcoming, I want you to print out this column and leave it in a conspicuous place along with an ad for a token of esteem you’d like your boss or family to give you. You know better than anyone that sometimes those other 11 signs need a little reminding.

The planets are in a funny pile-up this month, grouped together in Aquarius as if it’s the latest “in” place to be. When I turn the wheels, as I do for each sun sign forecast, and place Virgo in the first house – the house of self in a solar chart – all that Aquarian action falls squarely into the sixth house of service and health. In the chart of the natural year, Virgo is the sixth sign and rules that sixth house. So in a sense, all this Aquarian activity that defines the month and to a lesser extent the year is happening, from your Virgo perspective, in an area of life with which you’re deeply familiar.

You are, even more than ever, working hard and continuing to do your thing, and this month your work is having the effect of building the community and promoting health, making groups stronger and holding groups together in a way that serves the common good beyond yourself while also benefiting you. You have a natural affinity for this important work, and people are likely to notice and appreciate you for it.

Early in the morning Feb. 9, the sun in Aquarius shines under just the right conditions to cause the Earth’s shadow to fall on the face of the full moon in Leo. This penumbral lunar eclipse and the days around it offer you a link from your usual practicality to your more spiritual side. Take the time to find a place of wonder, in nature, in an art gallery or someplace else beautiful and restful, where you can take some quiet time to refresh your spirit.
 
You are gaining a new sense of your creative potential, and love signs look good for you this month, both in terms of enjoyable friendships and for romance.
