Kelly Clarkson’s new single rocketed from #97 to #1 in the blink of an eye, and every beautiful, spirited, “but-I-need-to-be-in-love” Taurus woman I know popped into my head, rollicking happily along with the chorus: My life would suck without you!
Kelly, the pop-rock goddess who won the 2002 American Idol competition, is a late-April Taurus whose previous song choices have frequently revealed a sense of herself as a strong, independent woman who knows she deserves respect. Her early biography emphasizes her willingness to work hard to lift herself from tough circumstances. That’s all very Taurean.
But so is this song, although its message has caught some of the singer’s fans by surprise. Clarkson didn’t write it, and the three songwriters who did are all men. Even so, it strikes me as so totally in tune with the archetypal Venusian that it could be the new theme song for the Taurus woman.
Taurus is a fixed sign and an earth sign, but its ruler is Venus. The Taurus woman may be symbolically represented by a bull, known for strength and firmly grounded in material reality, but she’s frequently the most beautiful thing you’ve ever seen and she’s always in love. If there’s a drawback to her type of romantic attachment, it is her steadfast loyalty that makes it hard for her to let go. Even that has limits, and she will kick you to the curb if after careful deliberation she decides you need to go.
But I’ve sat and talked about relationships with enough Taurus women to recognize exactly what goes on in this new song when the boyfriend comes back. The Venus-ruled Taurus woman will be honest about her own faults, blunt to him about his, and if she truly believes they’re a good match anyway, she’ll take him back because she loves to be in love. When she does, she won’t do it with a lot of lovey-dovey sweet talk. She’s far more likely to use a brashly funny line like, “My life would suck without you.”
The official video for the new song just went up on Kelly’s YouTube channel at this link: My Life Would Suck Without You, and here’s someone else’s YouTube with the lyrics.
