My travel pillow is pretty beat up, having been dragged through more airports than it probably should’ve. Actually, my travel pillow isn’t a travel pillow at all. It’s a little grey microbead number from Target that’s supposed to make driving more comfortable, but I liked it better than the other options, so I took it and made it my plane pillow. (Who drives wearing a pillow, anyway?)
So I have to admit that I wasn’t completely enamored with the Natura Dream Travel Pillow from the start. Why? Because it looks like your standard bed pillow, just smaller. There’s nothing really wrong with that, and some travelers might enjoy that kind of pillow more than the usual U-shaped numbers, but I was pretty sure I was going to need more neck support than this number was going to offer – especially when having to pull long-haul economy trips. And I was right. Although it was cushy and comfortable, as soon as I’d fall into R.E.M. my head would flop over and I’d wake up.
That said, I’ll tell you what made me adore it: lumbar support. It’s the perfect size for sticking between your low back and any uncomfortable plane, train or bus seat, giving awesomely comfortable support. It also rocked on the lay-flat beds some first-class flights offer. Apparently the pillow is perfectly shaped to keep your spine straight as you sleep, which might account for my comfort level. And as a side bonus, if I hated my hotel pillow offerings, I just used the Dream pillow.
Last but not least, it’s eco-friendly, naturally anti-microbial, easy to pack and only $15. It’s a steal if this is your travel pillow format of choice, or if you wish to supplement your U-shape.
